A very patient Mark Abram did the driving today. Heading firstly for Leighton Moss, we noticed the weather steadily worsening, so at junction 35 of the M6 we did a u-turn and headed towards the Fylde instead. Arriving at Marton Mere around noon, we walked to the far north-western side of the lake where six serious birders stood staring at a bush, but what was all the fuss about? Ten minutes later, we found out... No sign of the Long-eared Owls, we headed for Lytham Crematorium, like you do... A distant Merlin at Warton Bank (too distant to photograph) rounded off a pretty decent day. I'm still buzzing about the Firecrest, not a winner, but a first for me in the UK. A slap-up roast dinner awaited us back at home: Mark, Anne, Daniel, Gary, Lynne, Ben, Holly and myself stuffed ourselves merrily. Isn't life great!? Especially wildlife!
