Argeles sur Mer on the French Mediterranean coastline is our favourite summer retreat. The area has everything a family could wish for but best of all, its wildlife heaven. The range of habitats is impressive: beach, scrub, semi-arid desert, forest, river, marsh, salt-lake and mountain habitats are all within a 10 mile radius of La Sirene, a brilliant campsite which has plenty of wildlife itself... What a summer! With seemingly no end to this heatwave, I've been out and about at every opportunity. All manner of creatures have been literally crawling out of the woodwork, such as these Sand Lizards at Ainsdale Sand Dunes. Mind you, with temperatures hitting 30 degrees, its enough to resurrect the dinosaurs. Ainsdale Sand Dunes in the baking heat reminded me a lot of France, which is exactly where I'm heading tomorrow with my family. Just hope it isn't too hot..
